Is Fedor Emilianenko a fake? (part 2)

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF version

So now we get to the heart of the matter. Fedor never joined the group of A list fighters who fought in the UFC. Rumours abounded as to why but one thing is certain, Fedor's management M-1 Global had a lot to do with the decision as well as Dana White's position on the matter. Either way an impasse was reached and Fedor fought in Affliction and later in Strikeforce, both competitors to the UFC, and served as their marquee fighter. Ironically Fedor confronted many of the UFC's ex-champions in these events, detonating Tim Sylvia in inder a minute and defeating Andrei Arlovski as well.            Unfortunately, the fortunes of some of Pride's best fighter's wavered as Mauricio Shogun lost to UFC homegrown talent Forestt Griffin, Rodrigo Minotauro fought a series of fights that resulked in hard fought wins and culminated in a devastating pair of losses to UFC stars Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez (now touted as Brock Lesnar's toughest challenge) and mega dinsosaur heavies like Shane carwin and Brock Lesnar all appeared on the scene, leading a new wave of challenges that the Russian would not face without signing with the UFC. Even the mighty Wanderlei Silva and Mirko Cro Cop, once touted as unstoppable, had difficulty making the adjustment.          Despite dominating wins over UFC champions like Sylvia and Arlovski, fans memories proved short as they wondered how Fedor could be considered the world's best fighter pound for pound when he hadn't tested himself against the new wave of rising contenders and the old generation wasn't as dominant as it had been.    Fans became fickle and started to accuse Fedor of ducking the best. Fedor himself seemed hamstrung, loyal to the company that had brought him to his position and unhappy with the proposition Dana White offered. Their didn't seem like any viable solution. Intuitively it seemed that the most likely outcome would be Fedor continuing his onslaught through the heavyweight ranks of the UFC unsigned or ex-employee's until a super fight with Brock Lesnar, the seemingly unstoppable heavyweight juggernaught was inked on a special terms deal allowing both to fight in either a neutral venue or with special terms for the bout itself.     Fate was unkind however as Brock mysteriously developed an unkown medical condition and ex-UFC fighter and multiple world BJJ champion Fabricio Werdum was signed to fight Fedor. That brings us to part 3 of ourseries
